Womens Grievance Cell

Purpose and functions

To facilitate a gender-sensitive and congenial working environment at U. V. Patel College of Engineering so that women at the workplace are not subjected to gender-specific discrimination or sexual harassment.

The University shall endeavor to provide safe environment for staff and students free from gender discrimination and sexual harassment of all forms of sexual intimidation and exploitation. The University shall make its staff and students aware about the proper conduct to be followed at the campus and the penal actions for its implications. All complaints will be thoroughly investigated and appropriate action will be taken promptly as per the guidelines.

Ganpat University Women’s Cell and Internal Complain Committee has been enacted with the objective of providing women protection against sexual harassment at the workplace and for the prevention and redressal of complaints of sexual harassment.

What constitutes harassment?

Any unwelcome sexually determined behavior (physical, verbal, or any other form) which violates a woman's dignity and interferes with her ability to operate freely on campus). Harassment would also include gender-based discriminatory behavior.

“Sexual harassment is considered as a violation of the fundamental right of a woman to equality as guaranteed under Articles 14 and 15 of the Constitution of India (“Constitution”) and her right to life and to live with dignity as per Article 21 of the Constitution and right to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation, trade or business which includes a right to a safe environment free from sexual harassment.”

Who can approach the Cell?

Any female student, faculty or staff from the U. V. Patel College of Engineering.

How to lodge a Complaint?

The person concerned can personally approach/ write an e-mail to any member of the cell. The name of the complainant will be kept CONFIDENTIAL.

Guidelines for protection from sexual harassment:

    1. To create awareness amongst students about the problems faced by women of all strata due to gender issues.
    2. To create an environment of gender justice where men and women work together with a sense of personal security and dignity.
    3. To create awareness amongst students about the issues related to the youth, girls in particular.
    4. To disseminate knowledge about rights and laws related to women.
    5. To create a sense of responsibility in the students and have healthy study and work culture in all constituent colleges of the University.
    6. To enhance the self- esteem and self- confidence of girl students, women faculty and staff in the University.
    7. To provide opportunities to girl students and women employees to participate in and interact at conferences etc. related to gender issue.
    8. To help them in knowing the importance of good health, nutrition and facilities available for them.
    9. To help them in developing decision making abilities and be self-dependent & to assist them in overall development of their personality.
    10. To help them in raising their voice against all kinds of discrimination.
    11. To help them in changing their mind sets also to cultivate leadership skills in women.
    12. To create awareness about the social problems faced by women and to work for uplifting women & to make women realize their equal responsibility in building the society.
